What type of Firewood is right for me?

Kiln Dried Crates, Bulk Bags, Nets or Briquetteswhat’s the best choice for you, your home, access and storage?

Choosing firewood isn’t just about the log type. It’s about how you live. How often you use your stove or log burner, how much space you have, how easily you can store and move your logs and whether delivery access is straightforward or a little tricky.

At Calido, our kiln dried, Ready to Burn certified logs are supplied in the following formats: Firewood Crates, Bulk Bags and Handy Nets. All deliver high heat output, low moisture, and clean burning, but have their own advantages, depending on how much you burn, the space you have and how much convenience you’re looking for.

Let’s take a look at the options and help you decide which is best for you.

Firewood Crates

If you’re burning regularly and want to be fully prepared for the colder months, a kiln dried firewood crate offers exceptional value. Logs are neatly stacked, reducing air space and giving you a generous volume of wood, more per delivery, and better value per m³ than bulk bags.

Crates work particularly well if you have easy access for delivery: a flat driveway, garage entrance, or hardstanding makes pallet drops straightforward. Once delivered, logs can be transferred directly into your log store with minimal handling.

People who choose crates tend to enjoy being ready for winter, having their wood neatly organised and not needing to reorder frequently. With plenty of heat-ready logs in one delivery, it’s a smart, economical choice for those who burn their stove or log burner most days.

Nets

If you have limited storage space, or if your delivery access is narrow, stepped or restricted, our handy log nets are a practical and flexible choice. They’re portable and easy to carry straight indoors or to your log basket.

Nets are especially useful for smaller properties, cottages with narrow driveways or gated access, or homes where crates and bulk bags simply aren’t practical. You can order as few as 12 nets or top up with up to 56, making them ideal for managing your supply over time.

Nets offer unmatched convenience and if ordering the largest volume of 56 nets, they work out the best value per of all our kiln dried log products.

Bulk Bags

Bulk bags offer the ideal balance between quantity, convenience and flexibility. They hold a substantial amount of firewood but aren’t as space-demanding as a crate, making them perfect for homeowners who burn regularly but don’t need to store a full winter supply all at once.

They are also a popular option for topping up during winter, especially if you’ve started the season with a crate. Bulk bags are easier to unpack and manage - they’ll typically suit those with a shed, log store or garage.

Delivery works the same way as crates, palletised with a tail-lift, so you’ll need reasonable access for a straightforward drop. Just avoid leaving logs in the bag for prolonged periods, as the material doesn’t allow enough airflow, which can lead to moisture build-up over time.

Briquettes

If you’re looking for a compact, clean and highly efficient fuel option, log briquettes, also known as Heat Logs are a great alternative or addition to traditional logs.

Briquettes are made from compressed wood by-products, producing a dense, uniform fuel with a consistently low moisture content. This means they burn hotter and for longer than standard logs, while taking up significantly less storage space.

They’re particularly well-suited to homes with limited storage, those who prefer a tidy, low-mess fuel. Their uniform size makes them easy to stack, handle and store indoors, in garages or utility spaces.

Briquettes are also an excellent choice for topping up alongside logs. Many customers use them to boost heat output on colder days, extend burn times overnight, or reduce the number of logs needed per fire.

Like all of our firewood products, Calido briquettes are Ready to Burn certified, delivering high heat, clean combustion and minimal ash for stoves, log burners and open fires.

Which firewood format suits you best?

The best firewood format often comes down to three simple questions:

How often do you light a fire?

Daily or frequent users get the best value from crates, 40 or 56 nets combinations. Occasional users may find smaller quantities of nets or bulk bags more than enough.

How much firewood storage space do you have?

A dedicated log store, shed or garage? A crate or larger quantities of nets. A small storage area or a smaller property? A smaller quantity of nets or a bulk bag might be all you need.

How easy is delivery access?

Wide, flat driveway? Bulk bags and crates are no problem. Limited access, steps or no hardstanding? Nets offer a more practical solution.

Ready to Burn - whichever format you choose

All of our firewood, whether in crates, nets or bulk bags, is kiln dried and Ready to Burn certified. That means low moisture content, clean burning, high heat output and less ash - ideal for stoves, log burners, fire pits and open fires.
